I have been in Sri Lanka for approximately two months now. As I have not kept any written record of my time here to this point, I feel that this site will be a valuable tool for articulating my day-to-day thoughts and experiences. (This entirely depends upon how conscientious I am about regular entries.) Speaking with some of my fellow expats, such an endeavor as this can allow one to recall the smaller details of life. Such details, first clouded and indistinct in the fog of memory, then ultimately forgotten, are often responsible for the very texture of our experiences. I imagine these seemingly mundane experiences (in and of themselves) to be similar to the minute elements of a masterpiece painting, which cumulatively give the canvas its scope and meaning. Without the details, the work becomes little more than a pretty picture. And so, this site is my way of recording my own experiences as I try to lay claim to the details.
